Emily Joy is a dynamic, charismatic, highly-experienced, versatile vocalist with an impressive career behind her, and a depth of vocal dexterity that belies her young age.
She has made quite an impact on the UK jazz scene, being asked to sing at many leading venues across the country, and even featured for regular slots at the famous Ronnie Scott's.
She has held contracts with her own jazz quartet at hotspots such as Quaglino's, Le Pont de la Tour and Soho's 100 Wardour Street, alongside the position of resident vocalist with her trio for the Kensington Hotel in West London. In addition, she has entertained at galas such as the Henley Regatta and exclusive events for designer brands such as Whistles Fashion.
Over the past few years, she has performed for Seabourn Cruises, Holland America Line, P&O and Princess Cruises. On board the P&O Arcadia, she hosted her own "Women of Jazz" show, including music from the greatest female vocalists of the genre, which went down a storm; receiving significant praise and packed audiences every night.
Emily's striking vocal conviction embraces a wide range of material. Her delivery will seamlessly alternate between the robust, forthright & strong and the tender, emotional & gentle. Having made an impression wherever she has appeared, she has a wide and extensive repertoire, drawing inspiration from artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, Eva Cassidy, Etta James, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, Frank Sinatra and Amy Winehouse.
She is a "musician's singer", understanding the nuances and intricate details that create the best interpretations of musical performance, having graduated from University with Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Musicianship aged 21.
Em has received critical acclaim for her own recordings, being invited onto BBC live radio to perform them, and filmed for BBC Introducing. She is often asked to collaborate with professional writers and producers, lending her distinguished vocals to studio recordings, after releasing her own autobiographical EP entitled ‘The Overdraft’, by Farrah Joy, in 2014.
